Annual action days
March 07, 2025 - Equal Pay Day - International day of action for equal pay for women and men
The Equal Pay Day symbolically marks the gender pay gap, which is currently 18 percent in Germany according to the Federal Statistical Office. The date of the next Equal Pay Day is March 7, 2025.
Assuming men and women receive the same hourly wage: Equal Pay Day represents the day up to which women work "for free" while men have been paid for their work since January 1.
Women in Germany earn on average 18 percent less than men, according to calculations by the Federal Statistical Office. The gender pay gap refers to the percentage difference between men’s and women’s wages in relation to men’s wages.
In recent years, this number has decreased only very slowly. We therefore remain at the bottom of the international league table. Only Estonia and the Czech Republic have a larger gap.
Part of this pay gap can be attributed to so-called structural differences. Many women enter professions that are lower-paid, are less likely to work in leadership positions, and more often work part-time or in mini-jobs. However, even if these factors are accounted for and men and women in the same industry and position working the same hours are compared, there remains an unexplained pay gap of six percent in Germany.

June – Pride Month
The month of June is recognized as Pride Month and is aiming to symbolize the diversity of love!
Queer people still experience discrimination and exclusion because of their sexual identity and sexuality. Pride Month in June is intended to help increase the visibility and rights of queer people and communities and reduce discrimination. During these weeks, numerous gay pride marches and parties take place in large and small cities; the rainbow flag can be seen everywhere. In most cities, Christopher Street Day also takes place during this month.
Pride Month looks back on decades of history and began in 1969 in New York during the Stonewall Riots. At that time in New York, queer people had few places where they could meet undisturbed and be themselves. But even there they were regularly harassed by police raids. On the night of June 28, 1969, there was just such an incident in the "Stonewall Inn" bar, which led to clashes and riots that lasted for five days. Even today, this uprising and similar struggles are remembered, and the fight continues – especially during Pride Month!

November 25 - Start of Orange Days - Campaign against violence against women
The international day for the elimination of violence against women takes place worldwide on November 25 every year. This day marks the beginning of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, also known as “Orange the World”-days, which runs until December 10, international human rights day. The campaign was launched by the UN in 1991.
During these 16 days, events and activities are held worldwide to raise awareness, emphasize the need for action and promote sustainable change in terms of gender equality and violence prevention. In the past, Worms University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the Soroptimists, has highlighted this issue through various initiatives and this year as well, the university is showing its support by raising the flag in front of the A-Building.
The aim of the day of action is to draw attention to the widespread issue of violence against women and to show solidarity with the victims. Women and girls worldwide are affected by various forms of violence, be it physical, sexual or psychological violence. This has severe impacts on their health, safety and quality of life. In Germany, alarming statistics highlight the urgency of the issue: every 45 minutes, a woman is seriously physically injured by her partner. Every third day, a woman is killed by her (ex-)partner.
