Important Dates
In Germany, the academic year is usually divided into winter (fall) and summer (spring) semesters:

Before classes begin, the International Center hosts welcoming and orientation events. During the time between the end of classes and the end of the semester, students have a few weeks to work on e.g. longer assignments and complete any necessary examinations.
