The Caregiver Leave Act includes the legal entitlement to full or partial leave from work for home care, care and support of a close relative.
- Up to 10 days' leave in the event of short-term absence from work for acute cases (“care support allowance”)
- Up to six months' partial or full leave to care for a relative in need of care at home (“care leave”)
- Up to three months' partial or full leave to accompany a relative in need of care at home or in a hospice in the last phase of life
- Up to 24 months' leave of absence with a minimum working week of 15 hours to care for a relative in need of care at home (see “Family Caregiver Leave Act”)
The term “close relative” has been extended to include life partners, but also adoptive, foster and/or stepchildren.
