The curriculum requires a compulsory practical phase in the 4th semester. The internship is intended to enable students to apply the qualification acquired during their studies by working on suitable projects or taking on responsibilities in a company, a chamber or association and to deepen these as a complement to their scientific training. An internship position should give the student challenging commercial tasks with an identifiable reference to their studies. The internship should preferably be completed in a company from the tourism or travel management sector, but apprenticeships in companies from other sectors with a commercial orientation can also be approved as a mandatory internship after prior agreement with the department.
Internship search
Students must look for a suitable internship themselves. They can use the department's internal job exchange to do this. In addition, reports on the experiences of other students who have already completed a practical phase are available in the Moodle course "Practical phase".
Approval
The practical phase must be approved by the Department of Tourism before it begins. For this purpose, the internship contract and, if applicable, a job description must be submitted. On the basis of this activity description, the reference to the study programme is already established and the decision for approval or rejection is made. It is strongly recommended that the contract is not signed until it has been approved by the department.
Registration
After approval, students must register in the corresponding database in the Moodle course Praxisphase, depending on the semester in which the internship mainly takes place. It is important that the official name of the company, including its legal form, is entered.
Internship
The examination regulations 2016 & 2021 require an internship period of 20 weeks full-time. Admission requirement for the internship is the achievement of at least 60 CP.
Recognition
After completion of the internship, the following documents must be submitted to the Department of Tourism/Transportation:
1. confirmation of completion or work certificate
2. qualified report on the internship (detailed information on structure, content and form can be found in the guidelines for the internship report in the Moodle course Praxisphase)
3. short report (to be uploaded in the Moodle course Praxisphase)
4. survey about the practical phase
The deadline for submitting the documents is two weeks after the end of the internship.
